Eclipses, when either the Sun or Moon hides behind Earth's shadow, come
in twos (and sometimes threes) every six months. You can feel the
effects for about six weeks altogether, starting two weeks before the
first one, and ending two weeks after the second. These are
high-pressure, stressful, sometimes frustrating and potentially
explosive periods when you are cleansing, releasing, and detoxing
whatever has accumulated or been repressed over the previous six
months. What has been hidden in the subconscious now rises to the
surface. Illness is not uncommon, as we detox on a physical level.
A Solar Eclipse
is basically an especially powerful new Moon, where we plant seeds for
not only the coming month, but the next six months, and even the next
19 years. it’s an excellent time to set intentions and set into motion
new projects, particularly related to the themes of the sign the
Eclipse is happening in.
A Lunar Eclipse is a very
powerful Full Moon, featuring heightened and possibly volatile
emotional energy. Results of past actions reach a point of culmination
and fruition, and we have the opportunity for major breakthroughs,
emotional release, and new perspectives.
Eclipses serve as catalysts for growth and change. Life
transitions that are ready and waiting to happen are triggered into
action during Eclipse periods. How powerful the Eclipse is for you
personally depends on how it is interacting with your birth chart. If
an Eclipse happens within 24 hours of your birthday, you can be sure it
is a significant, life-altering time for you.
On the collective
level, major world events, of the explosive and shocking variety,
usually occur within 24 hours of an Eclipse. What has been hidden in
the shadows becomes front-page news. Eclipses are traditionally
associated with the death of “royalty,” which in contemporary culture
can include celebrities and politicians.
Both personally and collectively, the current Eclipse period will
relate to the previous one six months earlier, bringing up similar
themes and issues. As Eclipses have a 19-year cycle (meaning that
Eclipses happen at the same degree of the Zodiac every 19 years), it’s
also helpful to look back to 19 years ago to understand what the
current time period is about.
